Cma CGM and Singapore International Port have established a joint venture container terminal
Source:    Time:2016-06-13

According to shipping consultancy Alphaliner, French CMA CGM Group and Singapore International Shipping Group recently announced the establishment of a joint venture at the Port of Singapore to lease and operate four container berths, with the joint venture ratios being 49% and 51% respectively.

It is learned that the joint venture is expected to handle 3 million TEUs of containers annually, which will be used by CMA CGM Lines and its liner companies. Given that the acquisition between CMA CGM and Singapore's King of Sea Group is drawing to a close, the intention of this joint venture terminal is self-evident.

The proportion of container transshipment volume of the Port of Singapore in South Asia dropped from 89% in 2000 to 62% in 2015, and the overall container throughput of the Port of Singapore also declined by 8.7%. Therefore, Alphaliner stated that this move is an attempt by the Singaporean government to regain the cargo volume that was snatched away by the Port of Klang and the Port of Tanjung Pellebas in Malaysia.
